THRUSTON COUNTY, Wash. — New video sent to KIRO 7 shows the moment when a tornado touched down in Thurston County on Friday.
KIRO 7 viewer Anita Carlson recorded the moments when a tornado formed between Grand Mound and Tenino.
It quickly dissipated with no reports of any damage.
Tornadoes are rare for Western Washington, but can happen if conditions are right.
On Sept. 9, the National Weather Service confirmed that an EF0 tornado touched down on a farm northwest of Portland. No damage was reported.
On Dec. 18, 2018, an EF2 tornado struck Port Orchard and damaged 22 buildings.
The National Weather Service previously told KIRO 7 that Washington state sees an average of 2.5 tornadoes per year with the majority in the EF0 to EF2 range.
