Issaquah saw heavy snow in some areas, especially for those in the Tiger Mountain Road neighborhood.
Around five inches of snow fell on cars and covered the road. Some neighbors were able to build a snowman and sled!
Community members say they were excited to see this weather event wasn’t at all similar to November’s Bomb Cyclone. The threat of heavy snow toppling trees was a concern, but no power outages were reported in the area.
“There’s still so much destruction from the bomb cyclone, there’s a few houses where there’s still trees in the yard,” Brandon Carey said.
Another resident, Rachel Mason, said her early Monday morning commute was slightly slick in spots but manageable.
“Honestly it’s not bad, it depends on where you’re at and what your driveway situation is like,” Mason said.
Public Works say they had plows and ice melt trucks out all weekend and will continue to do so as long as the threat of refreezing is in the forecast.
Puyallup was frigid Monday morning as the temperature hovered around 32-33 degrees Fahrenheit. There was only the faintest wind, so wind chill did not factor in for those heading out during the early morning hours.
Across Puyallup, snow amounted to barely a quarter inch and was mostly a light dusting on several surfaces. The roads in the region were also clear of snow and a street sweeper pushed away what little snow there was on South Meridian across from the Puyallup Fairgrounds.
In Auburn, the snow amounted to about an inch. Some cars were iced over and covered in snow, forcing some commuters to break out the brushes and ice scrapers. There was also significant snowfall early Monday morning in Kent, Tukwila, and Renton during the early morning commute. Puyallup had mostly light flurries, but they didn’t last long.
Slick conditions caused issues on I-90 Monday morning. Washington State Department of Transportation shared a picture on social media of a jack-knifed semi near Easton on I-90. They said the westbound lanes of the freeway were shut down because of the incident. By 9 a.m., the road had fully reopened.
