SHORELINE, Wash. — Echo Lake in Shoreline was closed Friday after a toxic algae bloom with high concentrations of the toxin anatoxin was discovered, King County officials said.
The lake has been closed to all recreational activities, including fishing, while toxin levels are high.
Officials advised that people and pets should not swim, fish, boat, drink the water or engage in any other water-contact activities.
The state’s department of health says people, pets or wildlife can get nerve or liver poisoning by playing in or drinking water with a toxic bloom.
Algae information is posted on the Washington State Toxic Algae website: https://www.nwtoxicalgae.org/.
