Traffic backs up for miles on I-405 in Tukwila during emergency expansion joint repairs

TUKWILA, Wash. — Crews doing emergency expansion joint repairs in the two right lanes of southbound Interstate 405 Thursday morning caused traffic to back up for miles.

The repairs, which started around 8:30 a.m., were done just north of State Route 181.

Around 9:45 a.m., traffic was backed up for five miles. The HOV lane was open to all traffic during the repairs.

The Washington State Department of Transportation finished the work and had the two lanes back open by 10:15 a.m.
