State Route 99 in South Seattle was shut down in both directions due to a fatal one-vehicle crash late Thursday night and Friday morning.

Southbound lanes re-opened shortly before 4 a.m. Friday, and northbound lanes reopened shortly before 9 a.m.

The crash happened before 11 p.m. Thursday just south of Cloverdale Street, near the South Park neighborhood.

Troopers said a vehicle hit a sign and exploded.

The victim of the crash was identified as a 17-year-old male.

Debris was scattered across the scene when KIRO 7 arrived.

Troopers initially said northbound SR 99 north of 14th Avenue would be closed until around noon Friday. Drivers were advised to take alternate routes.
