Troopers searching for driver of vehicle involved in fatal hit-and-run on SR 16

GIG HARBOR, Wash. — Troopers are searching for a vehicle that fled from a fatal collision Friday night on State Route 16 in Gig Harbor.

The crash happened at about 8:45 p.m. near Burnham Drive Northwest.

When troopers first arrived, they reported that a driver involved in the crash had suffered serious but later reported that the driver had died.

Authorities said they received reports describing the suspected hit-and-run vehicle as a newer red or maroon SUV with passenger-side damage.

It is not known what led to the crash, but troopers are investigating.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Washington State Patrol.
