The official dog of the Seattle Seahawks — Turf — has passed away, the dog’s Twitter account said Thursday.
Turf’s official title was “Wildlife Manager and Irrigation Specialist” at the team’s Renton practice facility, the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
The dog had been going through some hard times recently and been battling cancer through surgeries and chemotherapy. One of his surgeries included the amputation of a front leg.
During his struggles, the Seahawks provided updates on the beloved dog and many of his fans wished him a speedy recovery.

The team’s last post about Turf was one about his death that thanked him for what he brought to the team.
Fans mourned his loss with hundreds of replies and thousands of likes on Twitter, including former Seahawk Bobby Wagner.
