LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Lakewood police arrested a 30-year-old man around 5:15 p.m. after two men were found dead inside a Lakewood apartment Monday morning.
Lakewood Police Sgt. Charles Porche said detectives are investigating the deaths as a possible double homicide, and believe this was a targeted incident.
Calls about shots fired at the Wisteria Walk Apartments on 112th Street Southwest were reported to police at around 1:45 a.m.
“Found two males down, deceased in sight… Appears (to be) Black males, one of them is approximately 70 years old, the other is about 50 years old,” Porche said.
Both victims had gunshot wounds, according to Lakewood Police.
Police said the older man lived in the unit. Neighbors say he’s been living in the complex for about 17 years and will be dearly missed.
“He was an awesome old man. He was always happy to see you, always, you know, make you smile, make you laugh. He’s very much going to be missed here, that’s for sure,” said Rachel Tschinski.
Tschinski says she can’t think of anyone who would want to harm her neighbor.
“He’s too much loved by everyone around here, I don’t understand (where) this came from, so (we) definitely want to get to the bottom of why this happened,” said Tschinski.
Investigators have learned that the 50-year-old was an acquaintance of the resident.
Neighbors say there’s a lot of crime in the area, but this is too close for comfort.
“It was a bit of a shock factor, you know, knowing that it’s so close to home, especially when most people I’ve seen outside are pretty nice,” said Nicole Genonevse.
“There currently are no suspects and there is no perceived danger to the public at this time,” Porche said in an email.
Detectives are working to get a search warrant for the apartment.
