PUYALLUP, Wash. — The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after four people were found dead inside a Pierce County home on New Year’s Eve.
Deputies received a welfare call Tuesday at about 10:40 a.m. from a family member.
When deputies went inside a home on Eastwood Avenue East in South Hill, they found two bodies: a man and a woman, inside the house.
Investigators said they later discovered two other bodies nearby after getting a search warrant for the property.
Deputies did not provide details on the ages of the people who had died and the genders of the last two bodies. However, the people involved are adults, they added.
Detectives said this was not the first time this house had received a welfare call recently.
“There was a welfare check called in a few days ago, but there wasn’t enough information from the reporting party or any of the other information to make entry into the home,” said Carly Cappetto, spokesperson for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Without a search warrant, a deputy can only go inside a house involved in a welfare call if they can spot signs of death or an emergency, she added.
Several neighbors told KIRO 7 News that many families within the community keep to themselves, including the homeowners of the house that’s at the center of the investigation.
“I only once said hello to him when I got the mail, and I guess it feels I didn’t know the people,” said Susan Stuart, who has lived in the neighborhood for 22 years. “It’s a hard way to start a new year with deaths three houses down from here.”
Deputies said they are not looking for anyone else at this time.
