SEATTLE, Wash. — The Snohomish County Health Department has confirmed at least two incidents of people being exposed to measles.
The announcement comes after a confirmed measles case in an adult who traveled through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport earlier this month while infectious.
The health department says they are closely monitoring the patients’ symptoms and the two have been advised to quarantine as much as possible.
If a person was at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on January 10 between 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., it is possible that they were exposed to measles, too.
The health department says the infected person was in the S-Gate concourse, the D-Gate concourse, customs arrivals, and baggage claim. The most likely time frame a person would become sick if they were infected by this exposure is between January 17 and 31.
If a person has received the recommended two doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR), the Centers for Disease Control says the vaccine is 97% effective against infection.
Measles spreads through the air and is highly contagious. If you are concerned you have been exposed and you have symptoms, reach out to your doctor. For more information on symptoms vaccination, and resources, visit SNOHD.org/measles.
