SEATTLE — Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission (UGM) is asking the community to donate 1,500 frozen turkeys weighing 15 to 20 pounds by Wednesday, Nov. 25.
The annual turkey drive aims to provide holiday meals for homeless neighbors and families facing hardship across the region, said UGM.
The UGM says the request comes as community partners report a significant year-over-year increase in demand for holiday assistance.
The Mission expects to serve nearly 1,500 Thanksgiving meals through its emergency shelters, long-term recovery programs, and Search + Rescue outreach, with remaining turkeys distributed to local food banks, churches, and partner charities.
Donations of frozen turkeys can be delivered to four locations in King County:
• Kent Distribution Center, 8226 S. 208th St., Suite G110, Kent, open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Men’s Shelter – Downtown, 318 2nd Ave. Extension S., Seattle, open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Hope Place Women’s Recovery Program, 3802 S. Othello St., South Seattle, open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Riverton Place Men’s Recovery Program, 3020 S. 128th St., South Seattle, open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Scott Chin, president of Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, highlighted the role of community support during the holidays.
“Homelessness is complicated, but caring for the person in front of us doesn’t have to be,” Chin said. “A Thanksgiving meal reminds someone they are loved and not forgotten. We’re grateful for the generosity of our community that makes this possible.”
The nonprofit organization provides emergency shelter, food, addiction recovery, counseling, and long-term recovery programs.
Turkey donations are being accepted through Wednesday, Nov. 25. Monetary contributions and online turkey donations can be made through the organization’s website.
