UW Medicine treating more COVID-19 patients since start of pandemic

SEATTLE — The University of Washington Medicine said it hopes to have its front-line health care workers vaccinated in the next couple of weeks, as it is seeing the most COVID-19 patients it has treated since the start of the pandemic.

UW Medicine’s intensive care units across its four hospitals are at about 80% capacity.

However, a partnership with other medical centers is ready to provide some relief.

“We’re really happy to have been part of creating the Washington Care Coordination Center. This organization helps us so we can level load patients across King County and the state so that no one hospital will be overwhelmed,” said Lisa Bradenburg, with UW Medicine.

The hospital system stated despite the surge, it still has the resources to treat patients outside of the coronavirus response.
