A dump truck lost control, crashing into multiple people and three cars before driving into the Subway sandwich shop Monday in Pioneer Square, Seattle Fire Department officials said.

Four people were taken to Harborview Medical Center, according to the fire department.

The incident began at 1st Avenue and Yesler Way just before 9:30 a.m. The truck was traveling westbound on James Street when it suffered a catastrophic mechanical failure, police said. The truck then rolled forward and hit a pedestrian at the corner of 2nd Avenue and James Street.

The driver then reportedly attempted to steer the truck through traffic, but hit three cars on James Street. It then ran into a Subway sandwich shop.

Video from the scene shows the truck completely inside the Subway store, with the front window shattered. The building was evacuated due to structural damage and crews carefully extricated the dump truck. Two employees who were in the store at the time escaped uninjured.

"If you see inside the place, you say to yourself, you cannot imagine someone survived this incident," said Ahad Aziz, who owns the Subway restaurant.

Aziz said one of his employees was injured in the crash.

KIRO 7 obtained video from James Moon, who was riding his bike when he heard screaming and witnessed the moments.

"All of a sudden, this big dump truck goes whoosh, bouncing through the intersection at 2nd and James here," Moon said. "This poor guy. He's in the wrong spot at the wrong time."

A representative with Harborview Medical Center confirmed that a 25-year-old woman was in serious condition and three men — ages 33, 44 and 51—  were taken to Harborview and are in satisfactory condition.

The woman who was driving the dump truck sustained only minor injuries. Seattle fire officials said she wasn't taken to the hospital.

The roads were closed for several hours but later reopened.
