We're getting our first look at the video from multiple surveillance cameras on board a runaway Metro bus. The video shows passenger Amanda Clevenger springing into action to bring the bus to a stop on Monday.
"A lot of people could've gotten hurt really, really badly," she told KIRO-7 days later.
Clevenger was sitting near the front of the bus when she realized something was wrong.
“I was the only one sitting that close to the front and there were some cars at a stop sign in front of us and I just knew if we didn't stop the bus we were going to hit them, and it could be a catastrophe."
A camera captures the bus driver running to catch up with his moving bus.
Back inside, Amanda got up and ran forward to the driver's seat...
She grabbed the brake and brought the bus to a stop. Only then was the driver able to get back on.
A couple of passengers who followed her were jerked backward by the force of the stop.
Metro told us, "We are looking into whether procedures were correctly followed in this incident and whether further personnel action is warranted." against the driver.
"I was like, 'Oh my God, this is not real life,'" Clevenger remembers thinking.
Metro says the bus driver has 15 years’ experience and a good safety record.
