More than 60,000 people ran, jogged, walked, and rolled through New York City for the New York City Marathon yesterday.
Among them was a Washington athlete who took on the course in a wheelchair, accompanied by KIRO 7’s own Eric Thomas.
In August, Eric met Amy Weigand for the first time.
Weigand is blind in one eye and has also been diagnosed with paralysis — but she wasn’t going to let that hold her back.
She shared her ambitious goal with Eric, completing the New York City Marathon, before asking him to be her guide and run along with her.
He trained with her over the last month or so, and yesterday, they accomplished her goal together.
Back in August, Eric asked Amy what this venture has taught her about herself.
“To take the chance and try something scary,” replied Amy. “It can change your life if you let it.”
