Washington ranks in Top 10 of safest states during pandemic, study finds

As many states are working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with restrictions in place, slowly reopening, and administering approved vaccines, a study has named Washington among the safest states to be in during the pandemic.

According to a new survey published by WalletHub, Washington state ranks seventh overall when it comes to how well the pandemic has been kept under control and how many people are being vaccinated.

WalletHub compared all 50 states and Washington, D.C. using five key metrics: rates of COVID-19 transmission, positive tests, hospitalizations, deaths, and the share of the eligible population getting the vaccine.

The rankings are based on information made available on Feb. 3.

Washington state did not rank in the Top 5 for any of the subcategories; however, Oregon ranked third for the lowest positive testing rates, and fourth for the lowest hospitalization rate.

According to WalletHub, only 2% of the population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 so far.
