REDMOND, Wash. — You can run, but you can’t hide from Redmond police.
Their ‘Drones As A First Responder’ program is proving to be successful.
On Tuesday, the department released video of an arrest where officers used a drone with thermal imaging to track down a suspect:

On Nov. 27 around 6:00 p.m. officers were called to a home near 165th Avenue Northeast and Redmond Way for a domestic violence assault.
When officers arrived at the home, the man ran south into the woods along Bear Creek Trail.
The department says the woods were too thick for officers to safely go looking through, so they used a drone to scan for him, using thermal imaging.
Once they found him, officers and a K9 unit moved in and arrested him.
This summer, the Redmond Police Department became the first police agency in Washington to operate drones without a visual observer, getting approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The Redmond Police Department has been using a drone to respond to some 911 calls since April to help officers safely assess scenes before ground units arrive.
