KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officials are searching for a man suspected of poaching an elk in Kittitas County and attempting to hide the body.
An officer responded Oct. 12 along First when a witness reported being approached by a man who said he "accidentally" shot an elk and asked for help in hiding the body. The elk was an 8x8 trophy bull elk, according to WDFW.
The witness declined and called 911 immediately, reporting the location and description of the suspect. Officials arrived on the scene to find the body covered with stumps and branches.
WDFW officials removed the animal and donated its quarters and back straps.
The suspect was described as a man in his 30s, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and with a trimmed goatee. He was wearing a camouflage top and bottom and orange beanie and carried a black and brown rifle.
