If you didn’t pre-order the Nintendo Switch, it is not going to be easy to find on its launch day on Friday.
The Switch is like three machines in one: Wireless controllers attach to a game tablet for handheld gaming, but you can also rest it on a table with a kickstand and detach the controller to play with friends. Additionally, it slides into a docking station for a traditional game console attached to a TV.
Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and GameStop will all have a limited number of Switch units available for walk-in customers to buy. So does Amazon’s brick-and-mortar store in Seattle.
Amazon Games announced on Twitter that the hard-to-get Nintendo Switch will be available at its Amazon Books stores in Seattle, San Diego and Portland.
KIRO 7 News gave Amazon Books in U-Village a call about its stock. The store said it cannot release its inventory numbers, but it has enough consoles to last for hours.
The store has the black, gray and neon colors. Gamers can also purchase “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” game.
Amazon followed a similar marketing strategy when the NES Classic was released last year.
The $60 retro gaming console sold out virtually everywhere right before Christmas except for on eBay, where it was on sale for nearly three times the price.
Amazon Books sold the NES Classic in stores for one day, but a week later it also released the console on Amazon Prime.
