SEA-TAC, Wash. — It may be almost Halloween, but this wasn’t a costume.
Two TSA officers at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport recently confiscated something that looks like a cross between Marvel anti-hero Wolverine’s claws and slasher movie character Freddy Krueger’s blades.
The dangerous item was found in someone’s carry-on bag, and is definitely better suited for movie screens than airplane cabins, TSA said.
“I saw three blades and distinct claw-like features,” said TSA officer Douglas Linn. “I was amazed, and even more so when it came out of the bag. I have never seen anything like this during my two years at TSA.”
Responding Supervisory TSA Officer Ann Rhoades said, “In my seven years with TSA, this is one of the most unusual items I have encountered. My first thought was, ‘Oh my gosh,’ and my second thought was, ‘Is this what I think it is?’ When Dennis asked the passenger if there was anything sharp in the bag, he said he wasn’t sure. Obviously, there was.”
The passenger immediately remembered the items after they were removed from the bag and voluntarily abandoned them at the checkpoint.
