Police arrest 30-year-old South Tacoma man for murder of his mother

TACOMA, Wash. — Neighbors in South Tacoma's Bryn-Mar Village apartments say the 30-year-old man who was arrested in the courtyard area Tuesday night was known to cause trouble, and even run naked through the apartment’s parking lot. But this time, they were left in disbelief.

"He had blood all over his face," said neighbor Donnie Ortega. He was just sitting there just smoking like nothing even happened. One of the guys who works here came up and told me he just killed his mother."

Tacoma police arrested the man after they found a 61-year-old woman had been murdered in her apartment, in the 1800 block of S. 82nd St.

"She was a very nice lady," said neighbor Je'hauri George. "Every time I saw her she had a smile."

"I just can't believe she's gone," added Ortega.

Tacoma police tell us neighbors heard a loud struggle and several called 911, when they saw a man-who they all knew as her son running away, shirtless, covered in blood. None of the neighbors who talked to KIRO-7 were unsurprised to see he was the suspect, because for years, they regarded him as threatening and unstable.

"Blank stares, just nothing there, like no emotions or anything,'' George said. “That’s your mother! How could you kill your Mom?”
