REDMOND, Wash. — Redmond police fatally shot a woman late Sunday night, the King County Sheriff’s Office reported.
It happened at the Modera Apartment Complex off 161st Avenue Northeast.
Three officers came to the building at around 9:20 p.m. when a woman called 911 saying someone was trying to kill her in her apartment.
When police arrived, she was on her balcony. She told officers she was the one who called 911 and that she had possibly shot someone.
Police said she then confronted officers with a handgun and was shot by Redmond officers.
The woman, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said gunshots were fired before Redmond officers arrived.
Multiple neighbors told KIRO 7 they want answers about what happened.
“I’m shocked that it has happened here. I mean, that’s why I pay as much as I do to live here,” said Jesse Silva, who lives in the building.
She said police filled the hall outside her fourth floor unit.
“He was like, ‘Ma’am, can you get back inside your apartment, an incident occurred,” said Silva. "This is such a safe place. I’m a single woman, I live by myself.
Redmond police Chief Darrell Lowe said it was an “isolated incident.”
Silva said more information would put her at ease.
The King County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
