TACOMA, Wash. — A woman was found dead outside a crashed car after a shooting on Tacoma’s waterfront.
Tacoma police were called to the 4300 block of Ruston Way at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a shooting.
“They found a vehicle on the north side of the road crashed into a pole and an unresponsive female on the ground,” Wendy Haddow with the Tacoma Police Department said.
Tacoma Fire Department medics tried to save the 29-year-old woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Thursday, family confirmed with KIRO 7 the identity of the victim. The woman is Mariela Vargas-Brown.
“I want justice for my daughter,” her mother told reporter Kevin Ko.
"I know she’s telling us to man up right now. I know she is. But we can’t. We need her," Brown's younger sister said. Family tells me all they know is Brown was shot by "a stray bullet" while driving. Tacoma PD can't confirm/comment at this point, as the investigation is ongoing. pic.twitter.com/WTqGl0GB6Q
