AUBURN, Wash. — Detectives are looking into leads after a woman was fatally shot behind the Muckleshoot Casino, at an apartment complex in Auburn early Wednesday.

The shooting happened in the driveway leading into the Greentree Apartments.

Linda, who lives nearby, says it was around 4 a.m. when she heard several gunshots.

“Like it was a woman screaming kind of, and then three shots, and then clearly, it sounded to me like the woman said, ‘He shot me,’” said Linda.

When Auburn Police showed up, they found a 38-year-old woman with a gunshot wound lying on the corner of Dogwood Street and 19th Place Southeast.

“Medics soon arrived after that and took over the lifesaving measures but soon, that lady was pronounced dead here on scene,” said Kolby Crossley, Auburn PD Spokesperson.

Immediately, K-9 teams searched the area for the suspect.

“Yeah, we did conduct a track on the suspect, so we are currently working on suspect leads at the moment,” said Crossley.

Linda says after the gunshots, it was dead silent.

“Then I didn’t hear like a car speeding off or anything…There’s a lot of times people sitting on this corner, they might be doing drugs sometimes, maybe smoking,” said Linda.

With the Muckleshoot Casino right next door, investigators say the incident happened on tribal land, but that Auburn Police will handle the investigation.
