TACOMA, Wash. — A Tacoma woman has serious injuries after she was hit inside her home by gunfire from a drive-by shooting.

Tacoma officers were called to a home in the 8400 block of Tacoma Avenue South in the Fern Hill neighborhood at 10:22 p.m. Tuesday.

“Neighbors calling in to South Sound 911 did report they heard over 20 gunshots fired,” Wendy Haddow with the Tacoma Police Department said.

Officers found a 56-year-old woman inside a home who had been hit several times by gunfire. She was taken to the hospital.

Video from the scene showed bullet holes in a window and on corners of the house. More than 40 evidence markers were placed where shell casings littered the street.

Tacoma police said not long ago, a similar incident happened in the same area.

The woman is expected to survive.
