Woman strikes trooper’s vehicle door during pursuit in Skagit County, faces multiple charges

A 36-year-old woman from Bow, Washington, was taken into custody after fleeing a traffic stop and injuring a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper during a pursuit on Monday.

Bow is north of Burlington, west of Belfast.

The incident began just before 2:54 p.m. on Dec. 16 when a trooper attempted to stop a maroon BMW 5 Series sedan without license plates on State Route 20 near Burlington.

The driver drove away, leading officers on a chase through rural roads.

The BMW briefly stopped on the 17700 block of Maiben Road.

As the trooper partially blocked the roadway ahead of the vehicle, the driver attempted to reverse but was unable due to traffic.

Instead, she drove forward, hitting the open door of the trooper’s patrol car and pinning the trooper’s leg between the door and the vehicle.

The injured trooper ended the pursuit as the woman drove away.

Investigators, with assistance from the Burlington Police Department, identified the driver and a male passenger.

On December 17, WSP troopers and detectives arrested the woman at her residence without incident.

She was booked into the Skagit County Jail on charges of Assault in the Second Degree, Malicious Mischief in the First Degree, Injury Hit and Run, and Eluding a Police Vehicle.
