SEATTLE — The Woodland Park Zoo is asking for donations to help support animal care as it struggles with revenue lost due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The newly launched relief fund will help raise money to support the zoo’s more than 1,000 animals.
The zoo initially announced it would close through the end of March, but has extended its closure until further notice. Officials said the zoo will lose $1.9 million in March and $2.2 million in April.
Officials said despite being closed to the public, the animals inside continue to need urgent veterinary care.
“Our talented and dedicated team is working hard every day for the continued wellbeing of all of our animals. But the very difficult reality is that our resources are not infinite and we need your support now more than ever,” said Woodland Park Zoo President and CEO Alejandro Grajal.
