Wrong-way driver causes fiery head-on crash on SR 167

A wrong-way driver on State Route 167 caused a head-on collision that injured two and blocked the roadway for several hours, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Sunday at approximately 3:08 a.m., a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of SR 167, approaching South 277th Street in the HOV lane, sideswiped another vehicle before colliding head-on with a vehicle in the northbound HOV lane.

Both the wrong-way vehicle and the vehicle it struck head-on caught fire.

The roadway was blocked for approximately three hours and 30 minutes.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Jose F. Zacarias Sebastian of Tacoma, was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center.

He is facing charges of vehicular assault.
