The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has announced a series of closures along Interstate 5 through Seattle for this upcoming weekend.
On Friday, May 19, northbound I-5 between Lakeview Boulevard and just north of the exit to eastbound State Route 520 will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 2 p.m. Saturday.
Only two lanes will be open and all drivers on the I-5 mainline will be detoured at eastbound SR 520 to use the Montlake Boulevard exit and turn around and enter westbound SR 520 to rejoin northbound I-5 past the work zone.
A single right lane of the I-5 Express Lanes will also be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 2 a.m. Saturday.
On Saturday, May 20, a second right lane of the northbound I-5 Express Lanes will be closed from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m., leaving only one lane open.
The I-5 Express Lanes will then be fully closed from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. All drivers will be detoured onto the northbound I-5 mainlines and will follow that detour through SR 520 and Montlake Boulevard.
From 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., all but a single right lane of the I-5 Express Lanes will reopen for northbound drivers.
From 11 a.m. through 10 a.m., Sunday, the I-5 Express Lanes will be fully closed while the northbound I-5 mainline will be open.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, a single left lane of northbound I-5 between Lakeview Boulevard and just north of the exit to eastbound SR 520. There will be no signed detour.
Drivers will be able to remain on the I-5 mainline heading northbound but should prepare for possible delays or congestion.
On Sunday, May 21, all lanes on the I-5 Express Lanes and the northbound I-5 mainline will reopen by 10 a.m.
