PULLMAN, Wash. — WSU Pullman suspended all campus operations at noon Friday as heavy wildfire smoke is degrading air quality.
All online and in-person academic and other activities are canceled.
Essential employees who are currently working on the Pullman campus should continue to do so, the university said.
WSU offered the following advice:
People should avoid being outside and should take public transportation instead of walking or biking.
While indoors, keep air inside clean by closing windows and using an air filter and air conditioning to keep cool. Make sure your air conditioner’s fresh-air intake is closed and the filter is clean to prevent outdoor smoke from getting inside.
Avoid using candles, fireplaces, or gas stoves. Do not vacuum, because vacuuming stirs up particles already inside your home. Do not smoke, because smoking puts even more pollution into the air.
People having respiratory issues should contact a doctor immediately. Pullman students can call Cougar Health Services at 509-335-3575.
