Your commute could get complicated: WSDOT closures across the region this week

The summer heat isn’t showing signs of slowing down, and neither is the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), as we near the end of August.

This week, drivers will see lane restrictions mixed with full closures, with a number of projects affecting the daytime commute.

Westbound SR 520 off-ramps to northbound I-5 and Roanoke will be closed overnight from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Thursday.

During these closures, all westbound SR 520 traffic that remains on SR 520 past the Montlake and Lake Washington Boulevard exits will detour to southbound I-5. Those who do not want to head southbound on I-5 must exit at Montlake or Lake Washington Boulevard.

Overnight I-5 north lane closures planned in Everett

Commuters on northbound I-5 near Everett should plan for overnight lane closures from Monday night, Aug. 24 to Wednesday morning, Aug. 26.

The following closures are from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning.

On Monday, Aug. 24, three right lanes of northbound I-5 from SR 526 to Lowell Road. On Tuesday, Aug. 25, three right lanes of northbound I-5 from SR 526 to Lowell Road.

WSDOT maintenance crews will use these closures to perform crack sealing and pavement repair.

Second week of nighttime closures in SeaTac starts Aug. 24

People driving on South 200th Street in SeaTac should expect nightly closures to continue for two more weeks.

The street will close from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., between 18th Ave. S and just east of the Des Moines Creek Trail. The final closure is scheduled to end Friday morning, Sept. 4.

These closures will allow contractor crews working for WSDOT to safely move large trucks across South 200th Street to haul in soil needed to build the new SR 509 Expressway.

This work is part of the SR 509 Completion Project.

South 200th Street closure information

Monday, Aug. 24 to the morning of Saturday, Aug. 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. — S 200th St. will close nightly in both directions between 18th Ave. S and just east of the Des Moines Creek Trail.

Monday, Aug. 31, to the morning of Friday, Sept. 4, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. — S 200th St. will close nightly in both directions between 18th Ave. S and just east of the Des Moines Creek Trail.

Signed detours will be in place.

SR 529 south Snohomish River Bridge lane closures

The left lane of the southbound State Route 529/Pacific Highway Snohomish River Bridge will close daily from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Aug. 25, to Friday, Aug. 28.

WSDOT bridge maintenance crews will make steel repairs during the lane closure.

I-90 eastbound ramp closures

Drivers on eastbound I-90 in Issaquah should plan for daytime ramp closures from Tuesday morning, Aug. 25 to Thursday afternoon, Aug. 27.

The following closures are daily from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 25 and Wednesday, Aug. 26: the eastbound I-90 on-ramp from Front Street North/East Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast will be closed. People can detour using State Route 900.

Thursday, Aug. 27: the eastbound I-90 off-ramp to East Sunset Way/Highlands Drive Northeast. People can detour using the eastbound I-90 off-ramp to High Point Way.

WSDOT maintenance crews will make ramp repairs during these closures.

Lane and ramp closures on I-5 in south King County

People driving should expect nighttime lane and ramp closures on I-5 in Kent Monday, Aug. 24 to the morning of Friday, Aug. 28.

The lane closures on I-5 will allow contractor crews working for WSDOT to perform drainage work. The ramp closure will allow crews to perform electrical work.

This work is part of the State Route 509 Completion Project.

Monday, Aug. 24 to the morning of Friday, Aug. 28, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. — up to two lanes of southbound I-5 will close nightly from SR 516 (Exit 149) to South 272nd Street (Exit 147).

Tuesday, Aug. 25 to the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. — the southbound I-5 exit to South 272nd Street will close overnight.

A signed detour will be in place.

SR 509 Completion Project information

The SR 509 Completion Project builds three miles of new tolled highway between I-5 and South 188th Street near the south end of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The new highway will be completed in stages.

The first mile between I-5 and 24th Avenue South opened in June 2025. Construction of the final two miles between 24th Avenue South and South 188th Street is underway and currently scheduled to open to traffic in July 2028.

I-5 south lane closures near Klickitat Drive in Tukwila

One left lane of southbound I-5 near Klickitat Drive will close daily from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, Aug. 25, through Thursday, Aug. 27.

WSDOT bridge maintenance crews will make expansion joint repairs during the lane closures.

SR 520 westbound ramp closure in Redmond

The westbound SR 520 on-ramp from 148th Avenue Northeast will close from 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25 to 4 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26.

WSDOT maintenance crews will make ramp repairs during this closure.

Daytime alternating traffic on SR 3 near Gorst

Travelers on SR 3 between Belfair and Bremerton should plan for daytime road work.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, contractor crews working for WSDOT will reduce the highway to one lane.

Flaggers will alternate travelers one lane at a time near Sunnyslope Road.

The lane closure allows crews to complete curb work, sign installation, and landscaping around the new fish passage culvert. Crews need daylight to do the work near a steep hillside.

This work is one of the last major steps before construction is largely complete at this location. Crews are scheduled to add plants along the stream in October.

This work is part of a fish barrier removal project in Gorst and Port Orchard.

South Spokane Street ramp closure in Seattle

The eastbound South Spokane Street on-ramp to eastbound South Columbian Way will close from 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27 to 5 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28.

WSDOT bridge maintenance crews will make ramp repairs during this closure.
