SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. — Community Transit is expanding its Zip Shuttle pilot program in Snohomish County.
Starting Tuesday, the program will be offered in Arlington, Darrington, and Lake Stevens.
The service allows community members to book a ride, and someone will pick them up where they are. According to the website, the goal is to provide people with more public transit options and get them closer to their destinations.
Rides can also be scheduled by calling 425-521-5600 or via the Zip Shuttle app downloaded to a user’s smartphone. Rides are $2.50 for adults 19 and older, and free for 18 and younger. Those who pay with ORCA LIFT will receive a reduced fare of $1.25.
Zip Shuttle started in Lynnwood near the Alderwood Mall. It was designed with input from community members to help make getting around the area easier. By the end of the pilot, Community Transit says Zip served over 1,400 customers, averaging 20 trips per customer, for over 32,500 boardings. Because of the success, staff decided to expand the service to other areas.
Arlington’s Zip service will go from downtown to Smokey Point. It will reach several schools in the area as well as the Stillaguamish Senior Center and the Smokey Point Behavioral Hospital. Zip Shuttle Arlington runs from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily. You can see the full map here.
Darrington’s Zip service will extend from Swede Heaven, up Highway 530, and over to Sauk Prairie Road. It will reach the airport, Cascade Regional Health, and multiple schools. Zip Shuttle Darrington runs from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily. You can view the map here.
The Lake Stevens program includes rides to downtown, north to Highway 92 and south to U.S. 2. You can view the map here. Zip Shuttle Lake Stevens runs from 5 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.
The pilot programs will last 12 to 18 months, during which Community Transit will gather feedback from riders.
