Looking for fun adventures with kids? Here are some easy local ideas

Dreading dealing with cooped-up kids over the winter break? Here are some great tips for fun, weather-appropriate activities that won’t break the bank.
With the help of seasoned parents, you can survive those two weeks without a single “I’m booooored.”

Many Seattle holiday traditions are either free or cheap. Start with this list: visit the reindeer at Swanson's Nursery, the gingerbread village at the Sheraton and Winterfest at Seattle Center.

In Bellevue, annual winter events include ice skating at Bellevue Square, Snowflake Lake and Garden of D’Lights (tickets only $5 and kids are free) at Bellevue Botanical Garden.
For a splurge, trek to Tacoma for Point Defiance Zoo’s spectacular ZooLights, and see the new Pacific Seas Aquarium exhibit too.
Once you’ve worked your way through the holiday happenings, it’s not too much to stretch your brain to find all-ages activities to entertain the troops. A new ParentMap book, “52 Seattle Adventures for Kids,” rounds up the best affordable outings for families in the Puget Sound. It’s also organized by season, so there are lots of options for cold and wet days.
“Just getting everyone packed, snacked and out of the house seems like a lot of work, but it’s always worth it,” said Elisa Murray, the book’s editor. “It’s fun for the kids – and essential for the parents’ mental health.”
The book, written by real parents, is packed with practical insider info on saving money, yummy snack stops and staycation favorites. Fill out winter break with these easy ideas that don’t take much planning:
·          Drive up to the mountains for super-fun sledding
·          Take a self-guided tour of Seattle’s quirkiest landmarks
·          Visit a playground with rainy-day fun (and then head to a nearby café for cocoa)
·          Taste your way around the world at these local bakeries
·          Sneak in a swimming pool getaway at an indoor pool
·          Spend a day exploring a cool kids’ museum.

The book also includes an essential list of how to save on outings around Seattle, including tips on free museums, free hiking days and free symphony tickets for kids. Find additional information about the 52 adventures, follow this link.
