Major Kirkland fire damages 6 condos as neighbors suspect generator

KIRKLAND, Wash. — Neighbors blame a large condominium fire in Kirkland Saturday night on someone using a generator to power of the condo units.

"All I saw was the whole back of the building was in flames," said David Coan, one of the residents displaced by the blaze.

So Coan and his girlfriend got out-- with their pet rabbit-- as flames tore through Arrowood Condominiums.

"It's scary! Nothing like that has ever happened to me before," Coan said.

Six units are either partially or completely destroyed, and the fire displaced 12 people.

Kirkland firefighters confirmed the blaze started outside the unit, but resident Glenn Taylor says he thinks he knows exactly what the source was.

He asked a man in a lower condominium unit what started the fire.

"He said it's my generator, it blew up," said Taylor.

"It's just crazy. I mean why would you have a generator going?" said Coan.
