Man arrested in stabbing at Bremerton apartment

BREMERTON, Wash. — A man is in critical condition after he was stabbed during a fight at a Bremerton home Tuesday night.

Emergency dispatchers received multiple calls about 8:10 p.m. about a stabbing at an apartment in the 1500 block of Spruce Street in East Bremerton where several people were there for a gathering.

Officers found a 54-year-old man bleeding profusely from the neck and a 23-year-old man with blood on his hands and clothing.

Officers said 23-year-old James Wesley Cotant of Port Ludlow told officers he fought with the victim because he thought he was abusing a woman in the apartment.

Investigators said Cotant admitted to using marijuana before the fight broke out.  An 8-inch knife was recovered from the apartment.

The victim lost a significant amount of blood and underwent surgery at Harrison Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Cotant was arrested on charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon.
