"As you can see, there's scratch marks where she suffered, where she struggled," a detective at the crime scene said.

Investigators at the crime scene found the dog had been hoisted from a limb high enough her hind legs could barely touch the ground. She was then held from behind and brutally raped.

"This is probably the most offensive thing I've seen in years. ... It took a true predator to do this," Smith said.

Only KIRO 7 cameras were there when forensic veterinarian Dr. Victoria Smith performed the necropsy on the 80-pound pit bull named Diamond.

Dr. Smith found injuries she described as excruciating and incredibly painful for the animal. "Not even sick. Just evil.”

Animal welfare groups offered a $25,000 reward. And then there was a tip from the San Francisco area.

"We got a call from a psychic medium who was able to give descriptive detail to the scene, the crime, and actually the predator through the dog's eyes," Ananda Boylan, with Thurston County Animal Services, said.

Detectives say it was credible information that helped lead to the arrest of Evans. According to court papers, Evans told Diamond's owner and investigators he killed the dog but denies sexual assault.

"It's a horrible outcome, but there will be justice for this crime,” Boylan said.
