MARYSVILLE, Wash. — Saturday marks a year since the shootings at a Marysville school that killed five students, including the gunman, and injured a sixth.
Student Jaylen Fryberg drew a gun and killed four of his close friends, including his cousin, at Marysville-Pilchuck High School last year. He then shot himself.
Students will be joining with members of the community for a memorial walk Saturday.
Earlier this week, T-shirts for the event were given to teachers and students. They say "United Marysville and Tulalip” and “#MPStronger.”
The walkers will wear the T-shirts as they walk around the campus Saturday at 9 a.m.
A moment of silence is planned for 10:39 a.m., when the shootings occurred.
Community members will also help plant 10,000 tulip bulbs at the stadium.
Friday night, Marysville-Pilchuck plays Oak Harbor a day ahead of the one year mark of the shooting. Last year, Oak Harbor forfeited the game that was to be played on the night of the tragedy.
The game starts at the school's stadium at 7 p.m.
