Man stopped at U.S. Capitol with machete and three knives

A man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after attempting to bring a machete into the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center, according to the U.S. Capitol Police.

The incident occurred just after 2 p.m. at the CVC’s north doors, where security officers spotted the machete during an x-ray screening of the man’s bag.

The officers immediately stopped the machine and arrested the man.

In addition to the machete, authorities discovered three knives in his bag.

The north side of the Capitol Visitor Center was temporarily shut down while police investigated the incident.

The man is facing multiple charges of carrying a dangerous weapon.
