SAMMAMISH, Wash. — A man who heard a woman's shriek jumped into action, confronted a fleeing teen and got his picture -- providing the key clue that led police to the arrest of a 16-year-old in connection with two assaults on Monday in Sammamish.
Bob St. Peter described what happened to KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alison Grande, saying it began when he was on a walk with his two children.
"We heard a woman screaming, kind of a high-pitched strange scream you pay attention to," St. Peter said.
He then saw the victim, who told him, "I just got attacked."
She described the man, and St Peter jumped into action.
"The switch went off … I just took off."
He said he found the teen near the back of a condo complex.
"I happen to catch a glance of a guy ducking around the corner, on the lookout," St. Peter said.
He said the teen was out of breath and couldn't explain what he was doing there.
"I said, 'You might be here at the wrong time, but I'm taking your picture 'cause we just had an attack," St. Peter said.
A deputy recognized the teen, who was later arrested.
Detectives said the teen admits he attacked the 26-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl Monday afternoon near a bus stop.
The teen, who is accused of child molestation and assault with sexual motivation, appeared in court on Thursday.
His parents asked a judge to release him, volunteering to hire private security to watch him. The judge would not, saying he could be a threat to public safety.
As for being considered a good Samaritan, St. Peter said, "I'm happy to do it. I hope someone does it for me, my family one day."
