PUYALLUP, Wash. — Residents in Puyallup are stunned after finding out about the new information that was publicly revealed on the disappearance of Susan Powell in 2009.
On Friday afternoon, a search warrant surfaced with a series of revelations about Josh Powell's apparent involvement with his wife's disappearance.
The new information came to light after a judge ordered that a search warrant that led to the arrest of Powell's father, Steven Powell, be unsealed.
Among the discoveries in the documents, it showed that Utah police found Susan Powell’s blood inside the Powell’s Utah home after she disappeared.
Another discovery was that Susan Powell left a handwritten note saying that if she died, “it may not be an accident, even if it looks like one.”
After the warrant was revealed, Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said that under Washington state law, there was enough evidence there to arrest Josh Powell.
Josh Powell killed himself and his two boys when he blew up his house in Graham during a supervised visit in February.
David Quantrell who lives near Susan Powell’s father-in-law, Steven Powell, said he believed that if Utah investigators had arrested Josh Powell, the Powells’ two sons Charlie and Braden, might still be alive.
“Something completely wrong happened to her,” Quantrell said. “And just in memory for her family, to show them respect that we would care about her.”
KIRO 7’s Stacey Sakamoto spoke over the phone with Josh Powell’s cousin in Texas, Nathan Leach, after the new information came out.
“Why didn’t they just arrest him if that was the case?” asked Leach. “Why would they not think his kids were in danger at that point and take them away then, rather than wait many, many months?”
Another neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, told KIRO 7 that he was not convinced that Josh Powell had anything to do with his wife’s disappearance until he heard about the information that was revealed.
