Two men from Whatcom County died Tuesday evening after they fell through an icy pond east of Bellingham near Van Zandt.
The Bellingham Herald reported that one of the men tried to rescue a pair of dogs that fell through the ice and into a pond. When the man went in, the other man jumped in to try and rescue him.
Crews recovered one of their bodies.
“We’re going to go back out in daylight and try to find the body of the second gentlemen,” Whatcom County Fire District 1 Chief Mel Blankers told The Bellingham Herald.
