EVERETT, Wash. — Major crimes unit detectives are investigating after a human foot was found on Jetty Island in Everett.

Beach goers called police at 2 p.m. on New Years Day to report they had found a boot with a foot inside on the south end of the island.

Based on its condition, the boot appears to have been in the water for some time, according to investigators.

The foot and boot were turned over to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The incident is not the first time a human foot has washed ashore in the Pacific Northwest.

In the past decade, 14 human feet have been found in British Columbia. Several others have washed ashore in the Puget Sound region.

In 2014, a human foot, still in a tennis shoe, washed up near Seattle's Pier 86.

A tibia and fibula attached to a left human foot in a black running shoe was found in December 2017 on a Vancouver Island beach in the hamlet of Jordan River.

It was later determined to belong to a 79-year-old Washington man whose partial remains were found in November along a beach near Neah Bay.
