Mukilteo shooting victim Anna Bui laid to rest

EVERETT, Wash. — One of three victims who was killed in a shooting at a Mukilteo home was laid to rest Friday.

Family and friends gathered for the funeral of 19-year-old Anna Bui. It was held at the St. Mary of Magdalen Parish in Everett, the church where Anna and her family had attended for years.

The memorial lasted more than two hours. More than 1,000 people were both inside and in an overflow area outside the church.

The funeral program described Anna as a hardworking, inspiring and loving girl whose wishes in life were, among other things, to spread the love to others.

It was last Saturday when Anna's ex-boyfriend, Allen Ivanov, opened fire at a house party in Mukilteo, killing her and two friends: Jordan Ebner and Jake Long.

All three victims and the suspect were classmates at Kamiak High School.

At the funeral, we saw students from Kamiak along with those from the University of Washington Bothell, where Anna was supposed to be a sophomore this fall.

Sonny Nguyen is a family friend.

“I knew her a long time ago. When we came to the US, we lived in north Everett together,” said Nguyen.

He says her death also hits the close-knit Vietnamese community in Western Washington hard.

"I feel very sad, yes, very sad,” said Nguyen.

As part of the Vietnamese culture, Anna's family members wore a white cloth around their necks as a sign of respect.

Deacon Dave Alcorta has known Anna since she was a little girl. He calls her a model student and a wonderful person.

The deacon says Anna's family is staying strong, but the loss is difficult for everyone when it hits so close to home.

"There are no words to bring healing to the family right now,” said Alcorta.

Alcorta said the family of Allen Ivanov, the suspect in the shooting, has also reached out to the parish. They attend St. John's Catholic Church here in Everett.

KIRO 7 was told the family of Anna Bui has no ill will towards the Ivanovs, just sympathy for those who love him.
