Six months after a North Sound woman was shot and killed in her sister’s doorway the murder is still unsolved.
But new court documents obtained by KIRO 7 include the murder in a timeline of events involving that sister’s ex-husband.
Kevin Laurence Lewis has been charged with assault for beating his ex-wife Amanda Canales so severely she had to be hospitalized.
The attack—and a series of events that happened afterwards including the unsolved shooting death of Alisha Canales McGuire last September—were mentioned in Lewis' charging documents.
Alisha was shot to death while her 3-year-old nephew and 5- and 6-year-old nieces were sleeping inside their Everett home Sept. 20, 2017.
"It was 2 a.m., she was shot in the doorway—multiple gunshot wounds," her sister Amanda told us.
Alisha had been watching the kids for Amanda, who was away on a business trip and learned of Alisha’s death from their father over the phone.
“He called me, sobbing, and yeah—that was a hard moment,” Amanda remembered.
Alisha’s murder has never been solved— no arrests made, no charges filed.
Lewis however, has just been charged with assault for a November 2016 incident in which police say he beat Amanda so badly she had to be hospitalized.
“Ultimately he just punched me in the face and punched me a few more times—I had bruises all over my body,” Amanda said.
She didn't give police or hospital staff her attacker's name until last summer when she says Lewis threatened her life.
"He said 'come back home or else I'm going to take you to court and I'm going a get full custody, child support and alimony, and if I don't get it I'm going to kill you,'" Amanda explained.
Lewis’ assault charging documents include that conversation and then “events occurring in August 2017.”
They read: “August 23rd, 2017, the court gave Amanda custody of their three children and denied Lewis both child and spousal support.”
In the next paragraph: “Amanda’s sister, Alisha, was shot and killed on September 20th, 2017, at Amanda’s residence… the case is still under investigation.”
“It’s been six and a half months and there really hasn’t been any great progress,” Amanda concluded.
Just Wednesday her family upped the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in Alisha's murder from $10,000 to $20,000.
Lewis has not been named as a suspect in the murder but he is being arraigned on the assault charges April 17 in Snohomish County Court.
