OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City Zoo officials say there was no chance at preventing the death of Chai the elephant.
Leading elephant experts examined Chai's necropsy findings and discovered the elephant had a congenital abnormality of her teeth -- that progressively worsened through her life.
Zoologists say her poor teeth prevented Chai from properly chewing food.
That caused the weight loss and bacterial infection that claimed the elephant's life.
The death happened less than a year after two elephants, Chai and Bamboo, were moved from Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo to Oklahoma.
