TACOMA, Wash. — Riders on some Pierce Transit buses may have been recorded on camera without even knowing it.
Several hundred cameras were recently turned on inside and outside buses to make passengers on board feel safe.
The News Tribune reports the cameras are part of a $2 million project to reduce vandalism, help track down hit-and-run drivers and investigate claims filed by passengers.
Video will be kept for 30 days and then deleted.
Pierce Transit's entire fleet will be outfitted with cameras by the end of the month.
About 550 King County Metro buses already have surveillance cameras.
They're inspected every 6,000 miles at the same time brakes and tires undergo routine checkups.
