RENTON, Wash. — A 20-year-old man is behind bars accused of killing his 21-year-old girlfriend inside their apartment Saturday, police said.
According to police, a 20-year-old man called 911 before noon to report that he had killed his girlfriend.
When officers arrived, they found the man standing in front of the apartment building in the 1300 block of Eagle Ridge Drive South.
"He was armed with a Glock pistol, (said) that he had booby trapped the apartment, that propane would go off if anyone went into it,” says Detective Robert Onishi with the Renton Police Department.
After a brief standoff with Renton police the man was arrested. The apartment was not booby trapped but the woman was dead.
Neighbor Janet Young was asked to leave her Berkshire apartment Saturday morning.
Young told KIRO 7 she didn't know the couple but she lived above them, and she sat outside for two hours today wondering how one of them killed the other.
"Totally shocked, totally shocked,” said Young. "For the kids to be so young, I just don't understand it."
The identity of the man and woman are unknown, and authorities will continue to investigate the incident.
Anyone who has information about the incident is urged to contact Renton police.
