Police: Arrest made in Tukwila motel fatal shooting

TUKWILA, Wash. — A man was arrested Tuesday evening in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in the parking lot of a Tukwila motel, police said.

Orlando Soto, 37, was shot and killed on the evening of Sept. 1 at the Knights Inn parking lot in the 14100 block of Tukwila International Boulevard.

According to the Tukwila Police Department, a man was seen fleeing the area on foot.

Detectives collected evidence at the scene that led to Asuan Santos-Valdez, 33, of Burien.

Police said the evidence indicated that Santos-Valdez went into a nearby convenience store where his image was captured on surveillance video. A K9 unit confirmed his path to the store and other street cameras.

According to police, Department of Correction officers recognized Santos-Valdez from a previous arrest, and found him in Seattle Tuesday evening. Police took him into custody without incident.

Santos-Valdez will be charged with first-degree murder, police said.

Police said it appears the motive for the incident was robbery.
