TACOMA, Wash. — A man who was pulled from a truck that went off a boat ramp and into the water at the Narrows Marina has died, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident happened in the 9000 block of South 19th Street  in Tacoma about 9:30 p.m.

Crews pulled a 92-year-old man from the truck and then transported him to St. Joseph Medical Center in crtical condition. Officials say he was underwater for about 10 minutes.

He later died from his injuries.

The elderly Fircrest man left his home Tuesday afternoon. Family members began to worry when he didn't return home.

Several people have died in the same manner over the years. In the darkness, drivers get confused and think the road continues down a hill, but it's actually a boat ramp.
The marina has put up  signs to warn drivers, but with another death associated with the boat ramp, it may face more pressure to make more changes, such as putting in a gate to keep drivers from plunging into the water.
