TACOMA — Two boys in Pierce County are accused of stealing money that volunteers were raising to fight cancer in north Tacoma.
The News Tribune spoke with one of the volunteers who says the boys took a bag of money that held up to $500 at a garage sale Saturday.
The volunteers had spent the last year collecting donations for their annual garage sale, which benefits the American Cancer Society.
The volunteer says two boys, estimated to be about 10 years old, approached her.
"One of them just grabbed the money bag right out of my hands as I was talking to a cancer survivor who comes by every year, and they ran off,” said volunteer Amy Diehr.
Diehr says several people chased after the two boys, but they got away.
Police are investigating.
